Finished- John 19:30

Jesus final words on earth – it is finished!
How confident are you that this event was a real event in history, that it is fact?

What were Jesus final words on earth?
Luke says “crying out with a loud voice” 23:46. He said Father into thy hands I commit my spirit.”, a quote from Psalm ?.

So which words were last, those in John or those in Luke? Probably John’s account. Tetelestai is the Greek word translated “it is finished”. But He would most likely have spoken in Hebrew, not Greek. Mashelem was most likely His final word spoken from the cross. It is the idea of a debt that is laid in full. It is also a word you would use as you reach the peak of a mountain or received your diploma.

So what can we learn about Jesus work from this?
1. His work was perfectly perfect; completely complete; nothing taken from it or added to it, one sacrifice, every need; all that we will ever need….
2. The accomplishment of a plan to save, authored before time began

What Jesus accomplished in detail:
1. Displayed the goodness of God as a human
2. Taught real righteousness – the highest of principles
3. Exposed counterfeit religion even among His own
4. Trained disciples to advance the good news
5. Left a perfect example we could imitate
6. Paid the penalty we could not pay, the curse of man’s sin

This is why we believe! This is extraordinary!

So what will you do with this? Live your own way? Or confess Him before men, proclaim your allegiance to Him?

Psalm 119:33: “teach me O Lord , the way of your statutes, and I shall observe it to the end.”

Matt. 24:13: “but the one who endures to the end shall be saved.”
