Proverbs, a life of wisdom . Will be our daily Bible reading program in 2019 Proverbs 27 is the focus for today. Here are some of the key verses: Pr 27:1 Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth
Pr 27:5 Open rebuke is better Than love carefully concealed. 6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Pr 27:12 A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself; The simple pass on and are punished.
But today will focus on verse 2 - let another praise you and not your own mouth, a stranger and not your own lips.
What exactly is a healthy view of ourselves? Does it demand that my achievements be noted and applauded by others? People are into praise. There are praise junkies out there who have a desperate need for praise.
Psalm 150 - let everything that has breath praise the Lord. This is the last verse of the book of Psalms. God is certainly praiseworthy, look at Psalm 138.
We have to focus outside of ourselves and on God. 3 points: 1. He reigns. My place in the world is temporary and little, even if I get 300 likes on Facebook. Observing this daily will help us see ourselves, our circumstances and even other people, differently. As we sung, our souls are lost in praise. A healthy view of ourselves begins with recognizing this, God reigns. I will give myself to His will for me and wherever the chips may fall, those are where they fall.
2. He exalts. There are paradoxes involved in Christianity. He who humbles himself shall be exalted. He who loses his life shall find it. Man’s praise is completely optional and unnecessary. I am valuable because of what God did for me, and that’s enough, 1 Pet 1:18,19. All I need to be concerned about is His value of me.
3. He remembers. Heb. 6:10. 1 Cor 4:1-5. Let a man regard us in this manner, as servants of Christ. But to me, it is a very small thing that I should be examined by you, or by any human court, in fact I do not even examine myself. But the one who examines me is the Lord. That is what counts. Each man’s praise will come to him from God.
