Fatal Miscalulations

Deaths increasing at Yellowstone from people slipping when standing near a waterfall. Lesson: Stay away from the slippery edge.

There is a sovereign Lord who accomplishes all He wills. Our God Reigns - Psalm 10. The Lord is king forever and ever. The wicked don’t see God, they spurn Him, not concerned about accountability. Psalm 50 - since I don’t hear from God, I assume He approves. A fatal miscalculation. Let these evil men be caught in the plots they devise.

Remember Haman’s gallows in Esther. He ends up being hung on the very gallows he had planned for Mordecai. Remember Goliath’s taunt of Israel and the end he had. Major miscalculation. Remember Rabshakeh’s taunts in Isa 36 and his fatal miscalculation. And what about Absalom’s rebellion in 2 Sam. It ended in his death. A fatal miscalculation. The Lord had ordained to thwart the counsel of Ahithophel.

Who's behind all of this? What about the great red dragon of Revelation? Our foe is real and tenacious and he will inflict his woes. But, in the end, his cause comes to nothing.

3 warnings:

1. To the wealthy. “Do not Make friends with the mammon of unrighteousness.” Use your material wealth wisely and realize God will call you into account for doing so

2. Warning to the defiant: casting off his “fetters” comes at great personal cost. You better revere the Son.

3. Warning to the boastful: tomorrow is never a guarantee.

Remember the rich fool in Luke 12:13-21. What calculating the sovereign God into your plan means. It doesn’t mean everything is going to go your way. What it means is 1. you will have God as your companion and your help. It doesn’t mean you will never suffer or never hurt. And, 2. it is infinitely valuable. Third, you’ll be very wise.

Where is your life headed? If you ignore Him, you need to be asked one question: Jer 5:31 - "what will you do at the end of it?" Where do you stand with God? Repair what needs to be repaired while there is time and opportunity.
