First Impulse

Psalm 73:26: my flesh and my heart fail, but God is the rock of my heart and my portion forever.

28: but as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord God my refuge that I may tell of all Your works.

Do you feel that? The nearness of God is my good.

What happens in distressing times? Challenging and stressful situations, or crises in relationships or discouragement? Any of this happened to you recently? What is your first impulse?

How can I make God-dependence and God-inclusion my first impulse? This lesson is about us walking with God. How long does it take to go to the throne of God when your heart is hurt? This is what being a Christian is all about.

Genesis 5:22,24, Enoch walked with God and God took him

Amos5:21-24

Matt 23:23 - sometimes we focus too much on following the rules. Rule following is important, we cannot be pleasing to God without it, but we need to let justice, mercy and righteousness rule our lives.

Micah 6:6-8

Observations: if you want to talk with God....

1. You must have confidence in the very real presence of God. This will serve as a compelling feeling in worship and to defeat sin in your life

2. You must have confidence in God’s ability to affect change. He may not do it immediately, He may not even do it this side of eternity, He will do it in His time. If you don’t feel this way, you won’t turn to prayer. We must go to God first.

3. You must have confidence in the reward of the faithful. Even if I never perceive what He has done, when I turn to God in trust there is a reward in that, every time. God will reward my trust, regardless of what happens in these circumstances. I go to God in trust, I win, period. It doesn’t matter if He makes it all go away or not, I win.

Psalm 62:1-2, Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation.

2 He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved

Psalm 73:28 But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, That I may declare all Your works.

Know this truth. This is really the only thing you need. Once you know this, you need to act upon it.
