Hindrances to Prayer

James 1:5-8 - ask and God will give it. Ask in faith without doubting. 2 Chron 7:14 - if My people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and heal their land. Psalm 66 - God has heard, given heed to my voice, not turned away... do we have that kind of confidence in our prayers?

What hinders our prayers? Here are three things:

  1. We’re not convinced that it results in change. Sometimes we see things improve but how convinced are we that they changed because I prayed?

  2. Prayer is not valued as a key to godliness and transformation. But prayer does just that, it makes you more godly. It humbles you and makes you realize there is someone greater than you who you need.

  3. We make it too formal. Just speak to God, acknowledge dependence. Does it have to include an Amen? Publicly it does, not privately.

Prayer is the key to heaven and faith unlocks the door. Our God is active and He is powerful. Let's be devoted to prayer.
