There is often a communication barrier when religious topics are discussed, some take a thing one way, some another. That is often the case with this discussion.
We decide here at Decker Prairie on our own what we teach and preach. There is no organization outside our local group that has any influence on that. There is some similarity in belief among many who bear the same name but that is not because they work together. This is the church that belongs to Christ on earth. We have to forget about the label and think of the church that belongs to Jesus.
What is a cult? Dictionary Definition: A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, a charismatic leader.
Observations: why do we hear this? 1. The intention is to use a negatively charged word to disparage beliefs. Belittling something does not disprove its validity.
2. Labeling something proves little, let’s study the source together.
3. You need inclusion in the body of Christ, period. If it’s not us, it has to be a body of Christ somewhere. 1 Cor2:15. Think outside of boundaries of names and buildings to those whom The Lord looks down upon from heaven and says “those are my people. “ Are you His or not? Do you have the mind of Christ, or not? The Lord has a group of called out ones, an ecclesia, and He determines your inclusion. One question really matters, are we advancing his teachings with Jesus as our Lord and King?
4. The faith/actions that produced Christians in the first century produce Christians in the 21st century. Whatever they were doing in Acts to become Christians, if we aren’t doing the same, its useless. 1 Pet 3:21.
5. The greatest responsibility is living as Christ. What others choose to do is largely beyond my control. I will try to reach as many as I can. My task is large enough as it is.
Gal 2:20, I have been crucified with Christ and it is no liner I who live but Christ who lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
