The Path

2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

Is this talking about a ledger God has, where we are judged based upon doing more right than wrong? Do we shoot for 51% good? Or 75/25? 90/10? There is no percentage that would indicate we have merited our salvation. Isn’t Paul instead talking about the path a person travels in this life?

Read Eph 5:1-12, the path. Paul is talking about the pursuit of purity in our lives, the eradication of all immorality. V6, let no one deceived you with empty words. Don’t listen to anyone who says your behavior doesn’t matter. What is the nature of our path? What kind of expectations does God have? Are we sure we are on the path? What are some perils, what are some promises? Perils: - Outside assailants. There are people who will do their best to discourage you from this path. This was what our reading this week emphasized from Prov 1. There are all sorts of influences Satan puts in our way to try to divert us from the path, influences that are alluring and look pleasurable.

- Inward challenges. Much of the epistles are written about the challenges of inner struggles. Desires, pain and weariness must be battled, on top of discouragements that happen, with ourselves, with those we look up to.

- The thorny soil in the parable of the soil is a major concern, the cares of the world, daily worries, make our once good soil becomes unfruitful. So then who can be saved? Well the good news is we have heavenly help. We have a high priest in Jesus who hasn’t left us alone. He is able to come to the aid of the tempted, he says in Heb 2.

Ps 19:13 "Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer." This is a prayer we need to be praying as we walk this path.

Ps 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties;

24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.

Na 1:7 The LORD is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him.

Three things to remember as we walk this path, three things that are ours: 1. Priceless proof from the Bible. What an extraordinary message guides our path

2. Precious possession - that I have a relationship with the living Lord, that I am connected to the most awesome beings, the Father, the Son and the Spirit.

3. Peerless prize that waits us, not just the destination but the nature of the journey itself. We’re on a path whose trajectory is glory, a path that is peerless.

Pr 4:18 But the path of the just is like the shining sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.
